Its important to check the brake adjustment before doing this, even self adjusting brakes, you will often find that if you adjust the brakes the cable doesn't need any adjustment, even self adjusting brakes can be adjusted manually

Mine are rear discs with top hat for handbrake pads. A simple case of 7 years of cable stretch.
I took up only 10 mm at the rod end and sorted thumbup
